A color key I did for TMNT Mutant Mayhem. A moment from the car chase scene. Really tried to focus on simplification and nailing that blinding light from the oncoming cars. Working on this movie was so fun ya’ll

hi!! im wanting to start getting into 2d animation and i was wondering if u had any tips or recommendations for beginners? i taught myself how to do hand-drawn rotoscope animation in photoshop but i’d def like to branch out into something more “professional” than that yk?
yes absolutely! i think the best recommendation i can give is to find out what *kind* of 2d animation you’d like to pursue? off the top of my head, there’s two different things to consider when you’re thinking of the types of animation you wanna do:
1, what is the purpose of this animation? is it for yourself or would you like to eventually like to do commissions or have it be a career? is it more creative or more practial? and also,
2, what kind of 2d animation? there is motion graphics, traditional hand-drawn 2d (digital or paper), puppet-rigged 2d animation, rotoscope as you mentioned, experimental 2d, and 2d animation that blends the aforementioned types
i’d do some research into those kinds and figure out what it is you’d like to do with it! do you wanna produce advertisements, or produce children’s stories? or even adult stories? movies or tv? explainer videos? music videos? little videos for yourself/to post on youtube? and then also just try out every kind of 2d animation that you feasibly can! it’ll help you narrow down what you’re really looking to do.
please lemme know if you have any more specific questions, i love animation and talking about it hahah
